Barato

Page history last edited by Alex Backer, Ph.D. 3 yrs ago

Barato (Spanish): cheap, inexpensive.

Barata (Italian): barter

Barter (English): exchange of one good or service for another

Baratum (Latin): trade

So the Spanish word for cheap derives from something you can obtain for no money, via a trade-in!
